Both graphics cards cost around $230 in my region, so I'm trying to choose between the RTX 2080 8GB and RTX 3060 12GB. I’d lean toward the RTX 3060 12GB for a newer build. The extra VRAM is useful for high-resolution textures and demanding modern games, especially at 1440p, and the card uses less power. It is slower than the 2080, but DLSS can help it maintain playable performance at higher settings. Neither card is ideal for maxed-out 1440p in the newest games, so you’ll probably want optimized high settings rather than ultra.
For mostly 1080p gaming, the 2080’s extra speed is more valuable than the 3060’s additional VRAM in most current games. However, 8GB can become a limitation in a few newer titles or heavily modded games. That limitation can usually be managed by reducing textures or other VRAM-heavy settings, while there isn’t really a way to make the 3060 match the 2080’s raw performance.
Check the condition, cooling, and power requirements before deciding. An RTX 2080 is older and draws more power, so it needs a decent power supply and should be tested for temperatures and stability. If both cards are equally healthy, choose the 2080 for mostly 1080p performance; choose the 3060 if lower power use, a newer card, and 12GB of VRAM matter more to you.
The RTX 2080 is noticeably faster in raw performance, usually by around 20–25%, and that advantage applies to most games.
