I can currently buy an RX 9070 GRE for about €475 after discounts, while an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB would cost around €550. I'm upgrading from an RTX 3070 and mainly want to play at 1440p. Which card offers the better choice, and will the 5060 Ti's extra VRAM matter more over the long term? The regular RX 9070 and RTX 5070 are outside my budget, which is roughly €500.

At €475, the RX 9070 GRE looks like a fair deal and it should be noticeably faster than the RTX 5060 Ti in standard gaming. Unless you specifically need Nvidia features such as better ray tracing, CUDA, or certain upscaling workflows, the GRE gives you more performance for the money.
The more direct comparison for the RTX 5060 Ti is probably the RX 9060 XT 16GB, not the 9070 GRE. The GRE is a higher-performance option, so if it costs less than the 5060 Ti and the 9060 XT in your area, it is the stronger value. It would also be worth checking the prices of the regular RX 9070 and RTX 5070, although they may not fit your budget.
The 9060 XT is around €430 here, but its performance seems fairly close to my RTX 3070. The regular RX 9070 and RTX 5070 are closer to €600 or more, so they’re beyond what I can spend.
The RX 9070 GRE should be faster than the RTX 5060 Ti, while the Nvidia card may be preferable for efficiency, ray tracing, and features like DLSS. The extra VRAM on the 5060 Ti is useful for future games and high-resolution textures, but it does not automatically make it the faster card. At 1440p, I’d favor the GRE if the price and power consumption are acceptable.
The standard RX 9070 is nearly €600 here, so it’s outside my budget. That leaves the GRE as the faster option I can realistically afford.

That was my thinking too, especially since I can get it below €500. My main concern is whether the lower VRAM could become a problem later.
