Searching for Long-Range Barcode Scanners

I'm an IT admin at a large company, and we rely on a fleet of handheld computers with built-in barcode scanners in our distribution centers. Recently, I've noticed that the new generation of barcode scanners has shifted from laser-based to image-based scanning, and I'm really disappointed with the performance. The image-based scanners just don't have the long-range capabilities that the laser models had. For instance, the older scanners can easily pick up barcodes from twice the distance of the so-called 'long-range' versions available now. This limitation affects our warehouse pickers, who can only access the bottom 2-3 bays instead of all 5. I'm looking for suggestions on any brands of handheld computers with integrated barcode scanners that still utilize laser-based scanning technology.

Pew pew! Just had to throw that in there. But honestly, I’d research some alternatives if image-based scanning isn’t cutting it for you! 😅

If you're after something current, the Zebra LR with the SE55 scanner is a solid choice—great long-range capabilities. And if you want to maximize performance, try out the Zebra MC9400; it claims a range of up to 100ft. Definitely ask for a demo!

The switch to image-based scanners basically killed off laser technology because of the QR code trend. If you're looking for long range, have a look at Honeywell devices like the CK67 with the XLR, they can scan up to 80 feet! How do you typically get to stock on high shelves without a proper long-range scanner though?

Give the Zebra DS8100 series a shot. They're not laser-based but have led tech and do a decent job at a distance. Worth testing!

You might want to check out the Zebra models. I've had great luck with them when it comes to long-range scanning. I was skeptical at first, but after testing one out in a warehouse, I was really impressed with the range!
