Hey everyone! I'm on the hunt for a dedicated server—nothing fancy, just a bare metal setup. Lately, I've been feeling overwhelmed trying to find a server provider that doesn't come with a ton of horror stories. Ideally, I'm looking for something based on the East Coast, but I'm open to other options as well. I'm even considering the idea of building a server and doing colocation if that helps.
As for specs, I'd prefer an AMD processor, but any decent CPU with over 16 cores works for me. I need between 64-128GB of RAM, and at least 2 SSDs, each 512GB or larger. I'm flexible on the other specs, but storage is a must. Any pointers or recommendations would be hugely appreciated!

Have you considered LiquidWeb? A few years back they seemed like a solid option for dedicated servers. Although I didn’t go with them due to budget constraints, I remember their data centers were mainly in Lansing, Michigan, plus they had a few regional DCs. Just a heads up—some people say things have changed after a private equity group took over, so check recent reviews!
If you're considering colocation, just be cautious: it can get pricey for smaller setups, especially if you're only hosting one server instead of a full rack. You might find better deals on used servers from data centers too—just search for used hardware online. If you're in the UK, sites like eBay and bargainhardware.co.uk have been great for finding HPE or Dell servers. Just make sure to get the necessary software licenses with anything you buy!
It really depends on your specific needs, but I've heard good things about OVH and Hetzner. They both seem to have a solid reputation. Just keep in mind that their US options might not be as robust depending on your requirements.
We’re currently on Hetzner, and I love them, but I think their US offerings are limited. I’d love to stay with them since I've been a user for years!
Yeah, that seems to be a consistent issue with providers getting bought out. Always good to double-check current opinions!
