Hey everyone! I'm planning to build a new PC with my son and could really use your guidance on optimizing our component choices and staying within budget. I've shared my current build list on PC Part Picker below:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vwrvwY
The items marked as $0 are components I already have, like the 5070ti graphics card, some fans, and the RAM kit.
I have a few questions:
1. Would using a fan controller solve the compatibility issues mentioned?
2. If a fan controller really does help with the USB header situation, can you recommend a cheaper motherboard that still has WiFi and Bluetooth? I want it to be compatible with the 7800x3d CPU.
3. I included a Gen 5 NVMe drive since the price gap with Gen 4 drives isn't huge, but do you think the upgrade is worth it? If it's not, should I consider a less expensive motherboard that doesn't support Gen 5?
4. We're looking for an AIO cooler with a customizable display. It doesn't need to be the large Wonder Vision; just a regular round display would work. Are there any budget-friendly options that provide sufficient cooling?
5. Lastly, I'm not well-versed in power supplies. Is the one I've picked suitable, or could you suggest a better option within a similar price range?
Thanks a ton for any advice you can share!

For the fan controller, if you’re going with Lian Li fans, it’s best to use the same brand for all of your components, including the AIO cooler and motherboard. Mixing different brands might lead to compatibility issues and multiple software needs. Regarding the AIO cooler, just stick to the same brand for a smoother experience. And honestly, you won’t notice any difference between Gen 4 and Gen 5 in actual usage, so going with Gen 4 is totally fine if you're looking to save a bit on that motherboard.
You probably don’t need a fan controller unless you're dealing with some specific RGB fans. You can actually use a Lian Li UNIFAN hub to connect all your fans to one USB port on the motherboard, so that’s an easy fix. As for the Gen 5 NVMe, there’s not much difference for gaming compared to Gen 4, so if you want to save some cash, it’s fine to downgrade to Gen 4 and even choose a cheaper B650 motherboard. About the PSU, yours is fine, but I’d suggest looking at an 850W model for extra capacity in case you upgrade later. The Montech Century II is a solid option that won’t break the bank.
This is very helpful! Thank you! I'll look up the Unifan hub for more info, but I appreciate the direction.

Thank you for the info! I could swap out the fans if needed, and it sounds like that may make things easier.
