Should I Add a 3200MHz RAM Stick to My 3600MHz Setup?

Hey there! I'm in a bit of a dilemma and could use some advice. My current setup has 16GB of RAM (2x8GB) running at 3600MHz, and it's working great for gaming—everything's smooth and in dual-channel mode. Recently, I stumbled upon an extra 8GB DDR4 stick from an old office PC, but it's only 3200MHz. My first instinct is to take advantage of the extra RAM and boost my total to 24GB, but I'm worried that mixing RAM speeds will force my 3600MHz kit to downclock to 3200MHz. This could mess up my dual-channel performance and bring about stuttering in games. Should I install the mismatched stick, or is it smarter to let it go and keep my current setup stable? Feel free to challenge my logic if you think I'm overthinking it! Thanks!

Why not give it a shot and benchmark? Your first two sticks will still run in dual-channel mode. Just monitor the system performance and see if it's worth the extra RAM. Could surprise you!

Thanks for the suggestion! You've kind of eased my worries about trying it out. I'll keep an eye on the performance once I do.

I'd stick with your 3600MHz setup. Adding a 3200MHz stick can cause instability and poor performance, especially with a mixed RAM configuration. Best to keep it running smoothly in dual-channel!
