Should I be worried after my laptop was stolen?

Hey everyone! I recently had a really unfortunate incident on the train where someone snatched my laptop right out of my hands as we were leaving the station. I'm feeling a bit anxious about it and wondering if the thief might be interested in accessing my personal files like documents and photos. Or are they more likely to just wipe the computer and sell it? I've already changed my passwords and contacted my bank to secure things, but there's so much on my laptop that I can't erase. What do you think?

If your laptop was encrypted with something like Bitlocker, you wouldn't have much to worry about regarding your data. It makes everything inaccessible without your password.

Oh, is Bitlocker a standard thing on all laptops? I'm pretty sure I don’t have that feature.

Most thieves just wipe the hard drive and sell the machine for quick cash. They usually won't bother with personal files unless they're specifically looking for something valuable.

Thanks for the info! Just wondering, do they need to access my laptop to wipe the drive? Like, would they need to crack my password to get in?
