Should I Build a Gaming-Focused PC or a Combo for Gaming and Productivity?

I'm trying to decide on what kind of PC build to go for. My primary focus is gaming, as I want to play some current titles like Rust, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, and CS:2. I don't plan on playing every popular AAA game out there, but I want a capable build for those I do want to try. On the productivity side, I primarily do programming, which I can manage just fine with my laptop that doesn't have a GPU. I'm not a fan of Nvidia due to their AI features, so I'm leaning towards the RX 7800 XT for my GPU. As for the rest of the build, I'm considering a Ryzen CPU, 32GB of RAM, 2TB NVME storage, a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE cooler, Corsair RM850e PSU, and a Prime B650-plus motherboard. Given my situation, do you think I should focus on a more gaming-oriented build, or is a combination of productivity and gaming better? Thanks for any advice!

Honestly, if gaming is your main priority, I’d recommend focusing your budget there. You have solid requirements, and your games aren't that demanding, so you're on the right track with the RX 7800 XT. For the CPU, something like the Ryzen 7 7700X could work well, giving you decent performance across the board without overspending. Also, since you're mainly coding and not doing heavy tasks like game development or 3D rendering, you really won’t need to stress about productivity performance too much. Just get a good build that'll handle your gaming preferences and you're set!

That sounds about right! I used to do basic coding on an old laptop and it was just fine. You should be good to go with a solid gaming build!

Since you mentioned you can code on a laptop just fine, I'd lean more towards a gaming-focused setup. Your GPU choice is great, and if your programming tasks are light, you likely won't bottleneck anything with your current laptop CPU. Just make sure your CPU can handle gaming along with whatever light coding you do. It’s all about finding that balance while keeping your gaming experience top-notch!

Exactly! Most programming tasks won't need high-end specs unless you're into heavy software development. The right gaming GPU will serve you well!
