Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on choosing a monitor for gaming with my current build, which includes an AMD RX 9060 XT with 16GB and a Ryzen 5 7600x. I'm torn between getting a 1080p or a 1440p monitor. I love playing AAA games like Red Dead Redemption 2, but I also enjoy lighter games like PEAK and Half-Life 2. I'm curious about what resolution would provide the best performance and smooth gameplay. I know that aiming for amazing graphics and ray tracing might not be realistic for AAA games while still getting high FPS, so I'm interested in knowing which option would be more future-proof. Honestly, the 9060 XT is great for both 1080p and 1440p. You'll have a solid experience regardless of the resolution you choose!
If desk space is an issue or if you like to keep your monitor close, then 1080p might definitely be the better option for you. For performance, 1080p is solid without question!
Definitely lean towards 1440p; I’ve run tests with that GPU, and it performs really well at that resolution!
Usually, the price difference between 1080p and 1440p monitors isn’t huge, unless you’re aiming for something like 240Hz for FPS games. But I'm curious, will your GPU handle 1440p well?
The RX 9060 XT should handle 1080p like a champ without any issues at high frames. For 1440p, expect about 70 to 100 FPS, and since you enjoy mostly AAA titles, I’d say go for 1440p as you won’t need those extra frames for competitive gaming.
I’d definitely go for 1440p! While it might require some optimization with the settings and possibly turning on FSR, I think you’ll find that balancing visuals and performance is much easier than trying to max everything out at 1080p.
Honestly, 1080p might be better for future-proofing. As new games come out, your GPU will have to work harder, so sticking to 1080p could make it last longer.
Given your setup, I'd recommend going for 1080p, but keep in mind you can totally play some 1440p at medium to low settings.
