I'm upgrading my RAM to 32GB but can't decide between going for a 2x16GB configuration or sticking with 4x8GB. I primarily use my PC for gaming, but I'm also starting to explore rendering. Which RAM setup would be better for my needs?

If you've already got 2x8GB, then adding another 2x8GB might be the cheaper option. Just make sure the new sticks match your current ones as closely as possible, ideally the same set. But 2x16GB will usually be more straightforward and work well without compatibility issues—though they do cost more. If your current RAM is on the slower side, then going with the new 2x16GB at a higher speed could really benefit you. It's worth checking used options too!

I opted for 4x8GB since I had 2x8GB already—just tried to get the exact same ones because the internet suggested it. It seems to work fine for me!

Nice setup! I’ve got a Ryzen 5 5600X with a 3060 and 32GB (4x8 Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz CL18). It runs great!

While adding two more sticks can work, it’s not without risks. DDR4 can have issues too, just less often than DDR5. For the most trouble-free experience, go with a 2x16GB kit and sell your 2x8GB.

Here’s a breakdown of max memory speeds: 2x1RDDR4-3200, 2x2RDDR4-3200, 4x1RDDR4-2933, and 4x2RDDR4-2667. Your choice!

I've heard Ryzen can be a bit finicky with 4 sticks. Some newer Ryzen setups manage just fine, but it's not a guarantee. You might want to go with 2x16GB to avoid any possible issues.

True, DDR5 Ryzen chips generally don’t handle 4 sticks well, but your Ryzen 5 should be alright with it as it has a solid memory controller.

From what I gather, the Cezanne APUs have a better integrated memory controller than Vermeer, so using 4 DIMMs shouldn't be a problem for you.
