I'm new to building PCs and want a system for both gaming and work. My work mainly involves video editing and graphic design, while I mostly play PUBG, Mortal Kombat, and indie games. My total budget is around $1,000–$1,500, though I might be able to spend a little more. I'm unsure whether AMD or Intel would be the better CPU choice, since I've heard Intel is stronger for productivity while AMD is better for gaming. I'm also considering an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X or possibly a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, along with either an RTX 5060 8GB or a Radeon 9060 XT 8GB. I currently prefer AMD, but I'm worried about choosing the wrong parts for video and design work. What would offer the best overall balance for this budget?

The applications you use matter more than the CPU logo. Some editing and design programs favor certain CPUs or GPUs, while others barely show a difference. For gaming, the graphics card will usually have a larger impact than small differences between comparable processors. Check benchmarks for your actual software before deciding between the RTX and Radeon cards.
For a new build, AMD may be appealing because of its upgrade path and strong gaming performance. The 7800X3D is primarily a gaming-focused chip, though, so it may not be the best value if your editing workload is substantial. A less expensive modern CPU could free up money for a stronger GPU, more memory, or storage.
Intel can still be worth considering if you specifically benefit from its integrated graphics features or hardware video encoding, but it isn’t automatically the better productivity choice. AMD should be perfectly suitable for light-to-moderate video editing and design, especially if you prioritize gaming and want a platform you can upgrade later. Either option can work well if the complete parts list is balanced.

I’m especially stuck between the RTX 5060 8GB and Radeon 9060 XT 8GB. I prefer the Radeon card, but I’ve heard Nvidia might be better for my work programs.
