Hey everyone! I'm building a PC and I have a Ryzen 5 8600G processor, along with an Asrock B850M-X R2.0 motherboard. I won't be using a dedicated GPU initially, but I plan to get one soon. With DDR5 RAM prices skyrocketing right now, I'm wondering if DDR4 would be a better option for my scenario. I'm gaming about 80% of the time (mostly including emulation) and the other 20% watching videos with lossless scaling at 60fps. I initially wanted to go with 2x16GB of DDR5 running at 5600MHz, but those prices are rough. Is DDR4 a good fit for me, and if so, what specs should I look for? Thanks for your help!

You actually can't mix DDR4 and DDR5 on the AM5 platform, so you'll need to stick with DDR5 for this motherboard. Double-check your motherboard manual to be certain about what types of RAM it supports. You might feel it's a bit restrictive, but it’s the hard truth with current tech!

I totally feel you! It's so frustrating when you think you have options. I thought I could go for DDR4 too. Turns out upgrading is just the price we pay for the latest stuff!
