Should I Choose the 5080 or the 9070XT for a New Build?

I'm trying to decide on a GPU for my new build. Initially, I had my sights set on the 5070Ti, but the prices have gone up significantly—it's now around $1,400! At that rate, I might as well consider the 5080 instead.

My main concerns are whether I should go for the 5080, or if the 9070XT would serve me just as well. I want to play games at 2K to 4K and be somewhat future-proof. Currently, I can only manage 4K at about 30 fps on my aging 2080S, and I'm noticing its limitations with newer games. I mainly enjoy single-player games, don't stream, and while I would love to try ray tracing, my priority is a smooth and visually appealing experience on my TV.

Additionally, I'm wondering if I should go with 64GB of RAM, or if 32GB will be sufficient.

Definitely lean towards the 9070XT unless you find the 5080 at a near-msrp price. If the price difference is significant, the 9070XT will meet your needs just fine.

What’s your budget like? Do you already have a display setup?

I’m actually using my high refresh rate TV, which I just bought. Budget-wise, I want to be sensible—overpaying isn't ideal, but I’d upgrade if it’s going to make a big difference down the line.

While the 5080 is a more powerful card, it's not necessarily worth the premium unless you're really pushing for top-tier performance. For gaming, the 9070XT could be a better fit given your needs—it's still very capable for 4K.

That's reassuring to hear! I frequently use DLSS, and since I'm on an AMD CPU, I might be better off saving some cash. If I can future-proof my build without going overboard, that sounds like the right move.

The 5080 is definitely a step up, but I wouldn't say it's worth more than 50% extra compared to the 9070XT in terms of frames. You might want to consider a cheaper option, especially if you're not a competitive player. Also, for RAM, 32GB should be plenty unless you're running really intensive applications.

The 5080 offers a significant performance boost, but I personally don’t think it's justified for the price. If you’re primarily gaming at 4K 30fps, save your money and go with the 9070XT. Getting the 5080 might feel like overkill if your main goal is just smooth gameplay.
