I'm currently using an RTX 3060 TI with an Intel i5-12400f and 16GB of DDR4 RAM at 2133MHz. I'm considering upgrading my CPU to either the 7800x3d or the 9800x3d and also want to switch to DDR5 RAM and get a new motherboard. I mainly play games like Rust, CS2, and Fortnite, which are quite CPU-intensive, and I'm struggling to hit 240Hz on my monitor. In CS2 and Fortnite, I'm not reaching that refresh rate, and in Rust, I'm stuck around 60fps. I play at max 1080p. If my graphics card becomes insufficient, I plan to upgrade it in the future. The prices I'm looking at are $470 for the 7800x3d and $635 for the 9800x3d. Would either of these CPUs be a good choice?

If your main focus is gaming, both CPUs should perform similarly, so I’d recommend going for the 7800x3d. It's likely to be more than enough for your current setup.
I agree with the others. The 9800x3d is overkill for a 3060 TI. You’d be better off putting that extra money towards a future GPU upgrade instead. It's not worth paying more for a CPU when your graphics card is what's holding you back right now.
Honestly, the 7800x3d is probably the best choice for you. It offers great performance without breaking the bank, especially since it pairs nicely with your 3060 TI.
Exactly! If you’re planning to upgrade your GPU soon, focus on that first. The performance difference won't be that noticeable in your current games.
