Should I choose the M4 with 16GB RAM or the M3 with 24GB RAM on a tight budget?

Hey folks! I'm in the market for a new MacBook and I could really use some guidance. I have a limited budget and want to make an informed long-term decision. Here are the two options I'm considering:

- **M4 with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage for around $1,200**
- **M3 with 24GB RAM and 512GB storage for about $1,500**

My main uses will include **coding (with VS Code)**, web development, and Python, alongside general daily tasks. I don't engage in heavy video editing or machine learning right now, but I would like the laptop to last a few years. Given that I can't really go beyond my budget, is the extra **8GB of RAM in the M3** worth the additional **$300**, or does the newer **M4 chip with 16GB** offer better overall value? I would really appreciate any opinions! Thanks!

I’ve been using an M1 Pro with 24GB and it handles everything I throw at it, even games like Cyberpunk 2077. The M3 is probably solid if you need that extra RAM.

Honestly, if you can swing it, maybe look into a good Windows machine. For the same budget, you could get a more powerful setup with 32GB RAM and better storage options.

I’d recommend waiting a bit for the new releases and then consider getting an M3. You might find a better deal or something more powerful then.

If you're focused on RAM, I'd say go for the M3. The boost you get from the additional 8GB is significant, especially for coding and running multiple applications without slowdowns.

But is it really worth an extra $300, though?

I'm loving my M4 Air! The battery life is outstanding and I don’t find any performance issues even when I have a ton of tabs and IDEs open. If you're not doing heavy lifting, I think you’d be fine with the M4.

Just wait until Apple decides you need an upgrade!
