I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 7500F with an RTX 4070 Ti Super, 32 GB of RAM, an 850W Seasonic Gold power supply, and a Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 EVO cooler. I'm considering upgrading to either the Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D, but I'm unsure whether the newer chip is worth the extra cost. Will my current cooler be sufficient for either processor, or should I replace it with a stronger cooler?

The 9800X3D does have better gaming performance and improved cache design, but it also tends to use more power. It doesn’t provide a new feature that will dramatically extend the life of your system, so the decision mostly comes down to price and the games you play. For normal 1440p gaming, the 7800X3D is still a very sensible choice.
Your current Assassin Spirit 120 EVO is a single-tower cooler, so I’d prefer a dual-tower model for either upgrade, especially the 9800X3D. Something like a Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO should handle it well. You can try the existing cooler temporarily, but monitor temperatures and noise carefully.
With an RTX 4070 Ti Super, you’ll usually be GPU-limited at 1440p and especially 4K, so the two CPUs should perform very similarly in most games. The 9800X3D is generally around 10–15% faster in CPU-limited situations, particularly at 1080p or with high-refresh competitive games, but the difference may be hard to notice in your setup. The 7800X3D is likely the better value unless the price gap is small.
If you play mostly CPU-heavy games, competitive titles, or want the highest possible frame rates with a fast monitor, choose the 9800X3D. Otherwise, buy whichever is substantially cheaper. The 7800X3D runs efficiently and should pair very well with the 4070 Ti Super.
