I'm building my first PC from scratch and unsure whether to go for the Ryzen 7800X3D or if it's worth spending an extra $100 on the 9800X3D. I'll be playing at 2K resolution with the highest settings, mainly on graphically intense games like Baldur's Gate, but I'm not into competitive gaming. My total budget is around $2.2k, and I want to ensure that I'm making the best choice without regretting not spending that extra cash.

Budget is key here. The 7800X3D is top-notch and will be relevant for at least five years. If you're spending the extra on the 9800X3D, consider if you truly need that boost. It's only slightly faster, about 10% or so, depending on the games.
If your target is above 1080p and you plan to crank up all settings, the difference between the two CPUs might not even be noticeable! But since you're building new, just make sure it's a CPU that fits your future gaming needs.
I’m definitely aiming for 2K and high settings with heavy graphics mods, so I want to ensure my setup is solid!
In the end, go for whichever one is cheaper! The performance difference of 5% to 7% isn’t something you'll notice much during gameplay. Think about your other components too—don't skimp on GPU or RAM.
Honestly, if you don't already have the 7800X3D, I'd say consider waiting for newer options like the upcoming 10800X3D. The 7800X3D is fantastic and will hold up well for years, but the 9800X3D just offers a slight performance bump—around 10%. It's really about whether you think that small gain is worth the extra cash.
I don't have the 7800X3D yet, and I bet the newer models will cost a premium.

Why do people upgrade if it's just a 10% increase, though?
