Hey everyone, I recently opened up my Lenovo Legion 5 for the first time and found a lot of thermal paste around both the CPU and GPU. I know the saying 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it,' and I'm aware that thermal paste is non-conductive. However, I've been experiencing some lag and stuttering for about half a second periodically. I was wondering if I should clean up all that excess thermal paste thoroughly. What do you all think? Also, I added a photo of the motherboard for reference!

Absolutely, you should clean and reapply new thermal paste. If you've taken off the heatsink, it's essential to ensure the CPU and GPU are properly cooled. Leaving all that old paste could lead to overheating issues in the future.
I agree. Using new thermal paste is definitely the way to go. Factory-applied paste can sometimes be excessive, which might contribute to overheating and those lag spikes you're noticing.
You can definitely clean it up if you want, mainly for aesthetics. But if you’ve already removed the heatsink, it’s a good idea to replace the thermal paste because too much excess paste can actually cause overheating.
