Should I Factory Reset My Old Phone with a Swollen Battery?

Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a dilemma and could really use your advice. Last year, my 6-year-old Samsung A50 sent me a warning about needing a battery replacement while I was in a remote area, so I couldn't send it for service. My parents got me a replacement phone, and I didn't charge or use the A50 since then. I transferred my data when it was at 15%, but let it die down to 0% and left it that way for a year. Now, my S6 Lite tablet has a swollen battery. I'm considering trading in my old devices with Samsung, even though I know it won't fetch much. Here's the catch: I forgot to factory reset the A50 before it powered down, and I'm really scared to charge it again after all this time, especially since it had a battery warning. Should I take the risk of charging it to factory reset and wipe my accounts, or is it safer to leave it as is and let Samsung see what's on it? Thanks for your help!

I think I got your situation right: your tablet is definitely the one with the swollen battery, and your A50 might just be dead. If that's the case, just plug the A50 in and do that factory reset! But if you notice any signs of swelling on the phone, like a lifted back plate, you definitely shouldn't charge it at all. Safety first!

I checked my A50 again, and there's definitely some lifting on the back cover. So yeah, I think the battery might be swollen after all.

Seriously, don't even think about charging a phone with a swollen battery! The risks are just not worth it. If you can, take the battery out and see if you can run it on direct power instead, but charging it could be dangerous.
