I'm currently in college and have a school-issued Windows laptop. However, I've been thinking about buying a Chromebook for personal use, particularly for streaming movies and using mobile apps. Is it worth it?

Honestly, if you're looking for a low-end tablet experience with a keyboard, it could last you a few years, but it really depends on how you plan to use it.
If you're thinking of using it for Linux, then it's worth considering, but be aware that Chromebooks are quite locked down. You won't be able to run a lot of traditional apps on it, which might limit you in the long run.
I've been using a Chromebook for my daily tasks at home, and it really depends on your needs. I've had mine since they first came out, and they're much better now. I stream a lot of content like YouTube and Disney+, and I also handle Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tasks. I pair it with a Mac M1 and a Windows mini PC, but I find myself using the Chromebook the most.
As a computer repair tech, I'd say Chromebooks are pretty much like tablets but with keyboards. If your main activities are streaming and using mobile apps, then a Chromebook could work well for you. Just keep in mind, if you need it for anything more demanding, you might want to invest in something else. A tablet might even be a cheaper option!
Oh ok, that makes sense!
That sounds great, thanks for the info!
