Should I Get a Temporary GPU for My New Build?

I'm planning to build a new PC since my current setup is over a decade old (I've been using an AMD FX-8350 and R9 280X, which is starting to fail). However, I've noticed that GPU prices are crazy right now. Would it be wise to move forward with my build and pick up a cheaper used GPU to hold me over until prices drop on newer models like the 5070ti or 9070xt? I'm considering a Microcenter bundle that includes the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, motherboard, and RAM. I generally play War Thunder Sim at 1080p with headtrackIR, but I want to upgrade to 1440p and potentially try VR eventually. I also do some light video editing in DaVinci but don't play many AAA games. Can anyone recommend some used GPUs under $400 that would fit my needs temporarily? Thanks!

Definitely consider the RX 6800XT and 3080; they seem to be the top recommendations right now. You can’t go wrong with either for your budget!

Yep, those are the general consensus options. Thanks for confirming!

You might want to look for a used 3080 or 6800XT; I’ve seen them going for around $300. Both of those options should serve you well for your gaming and editing needs!

Thanks for the tip! I just found a 6800 XT locally for $320, so I think I’m going to grab that for now.

Rocking that FX-8350 gives you major retro gamer cred! I was part of a class action suit for mine too, haha. For your needs, I’d still lean towards getting a used 3080; the 1080p performance is great, and it should handle 1440p decently as well.

Haha, I appreciate the support! I’m all about the "if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it" philosophy. The 3080s are a bit pricier compared to the 3070ti or 6800xt, but I’m leaning towards the 6800xt unless there's a significant difference.
