Should I Get All My Security Tools from One Vendor?

Is it risky to monopolize our security infrastructure by getting everything from a single vendor and managing it all from one place? Would it be wiser to diversify the vendor stack, like using Fortigate firewalls alongside Sophos for EDR? Just to add some context, I'm essentially a part-time IT manager with other business roles, taking care of around 25 endpoints.

The decision really hinges on your scale. If you're small, pick one reliable vendor for everything; it tends to ensure better interoperability. But for larger organizations, diversifying can improve resilience, albeit at the cost of more complexity in management.

I totally get where you're coming from. In my previous job at a giant corporation, we opted for Cisco across the board. While they weren't the best in every aspect, having just one vendor meant fewer compatibility issues and a smoother workflow. With limited IT staff, going with one vendor can cut down on troubleshooting time and make management a lot easier.

For a small setup like yours, sticking with a single vendor can really simplify things. Managing multiple vendors can get overwhelming, especially with only 0.5 people on your IT team. It sounds like consolidating to one reliable vendor could save you time and headaches, especially if they offer strong commercial support for the bigger issues you can't tackle alone.

I hear you! Having everything under one roof does make maintenance way easier. I used to spend a ton of time ironing out problems that were caused by incompatibilities between products from different vendors. It can really cost you in lost time!
