Should I Get the 5070 Ti or the 5080 for 4K Gaming?

I'm considering an upgrade from my 3080 Ti, mainly for single-player games at 4K, including titles like Alan Wake 2, Doom, and Cyberpunk. I'm eager to utilize ray tracing or path tracing in these games, and I understand that both the 5070 Ti and 5080 will need DLSS performance and frame generation to achieve this well. My budget is limited, so the 5090 is out of the question.

Currently, I can buy the Gigabyte Windforce 5070 Ti for £710 or the Zotac 5080 for £960. Do you think the price increase for the 5080 is justified based on the games I plan to play? Here's what I've found in benchmarks for my targeted titles, all tested at 4K with DLSS performance mode enabled:

- **Cyberpunk (Ultra settings, full path tracing in Dogtown)**:
- 5070 Ti (overclocked): 47 FPS
- 5080 (overclocked): 54 FPS

- **Indiana Jones (full path tracing in Sukothai)**:
- 5070 Ti (overclocked): 41 FPS
- 5080 (overclocked): 49 FPS

- **Alan Wake 2 (RT Medium forest area)**:
- 5070 Ti (overclocked): 42 FPS
- 5080 (overclocked): 51 FPS

There's a maximum difference of 9 FPS, which I think might impact frame generation with lower input lag and fewer artifacts on the 5080. However, I mostly game with a controller, so the difference might not be as crucial for me.

I'm also using a 5700x CPU. If I choose the 5070 Ti, I can upgrade my CPU, but if I go for the 5080, I won't have any budget left for that. Will the 5700x bottleneck the 5080 even when playing at 4K with DLSS performance?

If you can afford the 5080 without it straining your budget, I’d say go for it! Having a higher native frame rate really helps with frame generation, making your experience smoother overall. I also moved from a 3080 Ti to a 5070 Ti and while I'm okay with it, I do find that it doesn't give the performance I expected for 4K gaming. You want to aim for the smoothest experience possible, especially with ray tracing involved.

Totally agree! Higher native frame rates make a huge difference, especially with more demanding games.
