Should I Go for 48 GB or 64 GB RAM for 4K Video Editing and Blender?

I'm considering whether 48 GB of RAM would be enough for 4K video editing and working with Blender, or if it would be worth it to stretch my budget for 64 GB. I've used 32 GB in a previous build for 1080p editing and I'm wondering if I really need more power for higher resolution work. Any thoughts?

Consider testing with 48 GB first if you're on the fence. A friend of mine edits 4K videos just fine with 32 GB! You might find that it's enough for your needs, but having 64 GB would provide a nice cushion for the future.

RAM prices are getting reasonable, so I wouldn't hesitate to invest in 64 GB. You want to avoid bottlenecks, especially when you're dealing with high-res video and complex renders. The difference in price isn’t huge compared to the overall cost of building a good rig.

The amount of RAM you need really depends on the complexity of your projects. Some people get by with 16 GB for basic editing, while others may struggle even with 256 GB if they're working on very intensive projects. It sounds like you might want to lean toward 64 GB to future-proof yourself, especially if you think you'll dive deeper into heavier editing or 3D modeling.

That makes sense! I guess it’s better to have extra headroom than to find myself constrained later.

Definitely go for 64 GB! If you can, aim for a 2x32 setup for optimal performance. It’s worth the extra cost to ensure you have the headroom you need for demanding tasks.

If you're concerned about costs, remember that the performance gain from a 2x32 kit is worth it. You wouldn’t want to limit yourself with lower specs, especially since you’re spending a lot on the overall build. Go big or go home, right?

Haha, true! It's just tough deciding how much is really necessary for what I'm doing.
