Should I go for a used Rx 6800 or a new RTX 4060?

Hey everyone, I'm considering upgrading my GPU to a used Rx 6800, which is currently owned by its second owner. I reached out to a local computer store for advice, and they suggested I avoid the Rx 6800 and instead buy a brand new RTX 4060 8GB for about $100 more. In my country, that's quite a bit of money! They mentioned that Radeon cards may have long-term reliability issues. What do you think? Any advice would be really helpful!

The RTX 4060 doesn't hold a candle to the Rx 6800 in performance and has just 8GB of VRAM. The Rx 6800 is closer to the RTX 4070 but with more VRAM (16GB). AMD's drivers have improved a lot recently, so issues are less frequent now. If you’re switching from Nvidia, make sure to completely uninstall their drivers first. The 6800 isn’t top-notch for ray tracing either, but neither is the 4060. Just grab the Rx 6800 and enjoy!

They just want to make a sale; don't fall for it! The Rx 6800 offers better performance for less money. Go for the AMD card!

Thanks man, I'm posting here because I remember them trying to upsell me for a motherboard.

If you can, skip the 4060! The Rx 6800 is pretty much on par with the RTX 4070 and definitely way better than the 4060 or the 4060 Ti. Don't let price sway your decision; performance matters!

Wow, so you mean a 4070 8GB is as powerful as the Rx 6800 with 16GB?

It's not wise to ask a store with a profit motive about this kind of decision. While older AMD models had some issues, the failure rates for their 6000 and 7000 series have been acceptable. Buying used always carries a risk, but that store isn't being honest with you. Trust your gut!

Got it, I'll test thoroughly before I buy!

Honestly, don't listen to the store; they just want to sell you the new card. The Rx 6800 is significantly faster than the RTX 4060. Sure, Nvidia is better for ray tracing, but the 4060 can't really handle ray tracing at a decent level anyway. Plus, the 6800 has double the VRAM! Just go for the 6800; it's a strong card!
