Should I Go for AM4 or AM5 for My New Gaming PC Build?

I'm about to build my second PC and I'm looking for some guidance on whether to stick with an AM4 build or upgrade to AM5 for future-proofing. I've got two build options: a more affordable AM4 setup and a pricier future-oriented AM5 setup.

For the AM4 build, I have a second-hand 6700xt, Ryzen 5 5700x, Gskill Trident 32GB RAM, a Gigabyte B550M motherboard, a 750w power supply, and I'm using a second-hand air cooler and a Lian Li case. That totals about **47,000php or 854usd**.

For the AM5 build, I'm considering the Ryzen 7 7700 with DDR5 RAM and a B650M motherboard, which brings the total to **56,000php or 1018usd**. I'm trying to figure out if the extra cost is worth it.

I want to ensure I'm set for the next several years while gaming mainly on AAA titles like RDR2 and others—a lot of single-player adventure games. I'm weighing the pros and cons of going with the more expensive, supposedly future-proof option, versus saving some cash with the AM4. Do you all think the 7700 is necessary, or would the 7600 suffice for gaming? Also, are there any compatibility issues or recommendations you have for either option? Any insights would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I recommend sticking with the AM4 build. It's well-balanced for various workloads and saves you money. You can always upgrade later when the time is right and have a more solid upgrade path. Don't rush into spending more on parts that won't truly benefit you for a while. Besides, the market for second-hand parts is tricky; remember that!

I totally get that! I’m worried about the resale value, especially with second-hand motherboards, so your perspective helps.

Honestly, it sounds like you’d be fine going with the 7600 for your AM5 build. The performance is very similar to the 7700 when it comes to gaming, and you could save some cash. If you're mainly gaming, the 7600 is a great choice! Plus, the AM5 platform will give you better longevity down the line since it supports DDR5 and newer features.

I'll look into the 7500F variant too since that could be even cheaper. Thanks for the tip!

Going AM4 isn’t gonna set you up for the best long-term, especially if you're thinking like 5-10 years down the line. The AM5 platform is definitely more future-proof, but you can still get decent performance from the 7600. Focus on single-thread performance—it's key for gaming. And as for the memory speeds, just make sure to enable XMP for optimal performance with your RAM.

Good to know that about the RAM! I'm glad to hear the current GPU is smart too; I plan to upgrade in a few years anyway.
