I'm considering upgrading my aging computer that I've had for over ten years. Currently, I have an AMD 5800X CPU and an NVIDIA 1080 Ti GPU, and I'm a bit worried about rising prices and the potential failure of my old components. I've looked into options at Micro Center and found two that interest me. The first is an AMD bundle deal for $700 that includes a motherboard, 32 GB of RAM, and a 9800X3D GPU. Along with that, I would add an RX 9070 XT for another $700 to integrate into my current setup. The second option is a pre-built Alienware system costing $2200, which includes a 5080 GPU, an Intel Ultra 9 285K CPU, 32 GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD. I'm torn between these choices because while the 5080 is more powerful and has superior software, it's quite pricey. I would love to hear opinions on which option might be the best move.

You're comparing a $1400 build with a $2200 build, and I'm a bit puzzled. Why not just get the 5080 with the AMD bundle if that’s what you want? Also, I wouldn’t recommend Alienware. They often use proprietary parts that limit upgrades and have poor cooling performance.
You might also need a new power supply. Think about the performance you're really after. Upgrading in a panic isn't ideal. If that’s your focus, just grab a new GPU. The 5800X still holds up, but the 1080 Ti is aging fast.
I already have a PSU. I just want to be able to play Oblivion Remastered at 1440p without any hiccups.
How much RAM do you have? If it's 32GB already, I’d stick with your current CPU and just get the new GPU. You’ll enjoy a significant performance boost at a much lower cost.
I currently just have 16 GB and I'm not confident they’ll last much longer.
Just upgrade the GPU to something modern like an RX 9070 or RTX 5070. Your 5800X is still a solid CPU, so I wouldn't bother replacing it just yet.
It depends on the games you're playing. If you're looking for high FPS in competitive games, an upgraded CPU could be a good idea too.
But if all your components are aging, you might want to replace the RAM too. They could fail unexpectedly.
I'd lean towards the AMD bundle. It's cheaper and depending on the specific 9070XT, it likely has more VRAM. Maybe share details about what games or tasks you're interested in?
If you’re worried about your aging parts, start with a new GPU and PSU. Honestly, with your specs, you don’t need to upgrade much aside from the 16GB of RAM. Just grab a 32GB DDR4 kit and you should be fine for a while.
That’s true, I have a new PSU, but I want to upgrade my RAM and GPU. The AMD bundle is more logical since buying the RAM alone doesn’t make sense, but the pre-built Alienware with the 5080 is really tempting.
Seriously, avoid Alienware!

I’m hesitating on getting the 5080 because it's overpriced. That pre-built is heavily discounted and has features like water cooling. I'm just unsure if it’s worth it compared to the bundle.
