Should I Hold Off on Buying a Motherboard for My New 9950X Until DDR6?

I just got my hands on a 9950X and I'm wondering if I should wait for DDR6 to come out before I buy a motherboard. I've heard that DDR6 is expected to launch soon, maybe by the end of this year. Is it compatible with my CPU? Any insights would be appreciated!

The 9950X only supports DDR5 since its memory controller is designed for that. It won’t work with DDR6, so you shouldn't wait for it. Just go ahead and get a motherboard now!

That information about DDR6 isn't quite right; your 9950X definitely won’t support it. If you're looking to build right now, just get a solid DDR5 setup instead. There's no need to put your build on hold.

Honestly, you'll be waiting a while. The DDR6 spec isn't even finalized yet, and no current CPUs, including the 9950X, will work with it. If you need a rig now, go for it!

Yeah, and don't forget that your 9950X is a great CPU for gaming and productivity. Just make sure your other components are up to par for a future upgrade.
