Should I Keep My 7900X3D or Upgrade to the 9950X3D?

Hey everyone! I was initially planning to pair the 9950X3D with a 5090, but given the chaos surrounding the 50 series launch and the issues with the 12VHPWR connectors, I decided to stick with my current 4090. I primarily play Fortnite and Apex at 1440p, managing to hit around 250-300 fps in both. Plus, I've got a ton of single-player AAA games lined up that I'm working my way through whenever I have time. So my question is: will upgrading to the 9950X3D provide a noticeable boost in gaming performance compared to my 7900X3D? Just for reference, I usually don't rely heavily on DLSS or Frame Generation unless absolutely necessary.

Your games seem pretty low-maintenance! Let’s chat again when you start tackling more demanding titles!

Excuse me? I already mentioned I have a serious backlog of AAA games I'm working through!

Are you really considering spending that much for minimal gains?

I wouldn't say it's worth upgrading. Sure, you might gain some FPS, but with the cost involved, it just doesn't seem justified.

If your 7900X3D is still working well, I say keep it! CPUs can be really pricey, so unless you’re facing issues, it doesn’t make sense to upgrade just yet. You'll save yourself quite a bit of cash.

Exactly!

Are CPUs really crazy expensive? The 9950X3D costs around $700, which isn't cheap, but not the worst. Then again, with rumors about Zen6 being potentially awesome, maybe just wait it out.

Are you playing those AAA games at 1440p or 4K? Either way, even the 5800X3D should be adequate for you!

Consider investing that cash in some better games instead, like Goat Simulator!

Honestly, no need to upgrade. Your current CPU is solid for both gaming and productivity. I’d recommend waiting for the Ryzen 10000 series. It’s only going to get better from here!

For gaming, the 9800X3D is actually cheaper and performs similarly. The 9950X3D is great for productivity, but at 1440p, the differences in CPUs shrink. Since you're already getting 250-350 fps, you're pretty much covered in that arena. The 9950X3D might help if you're concerned about frame drops during intense moments, especially with a 360Hz monitor, but pros might be the only ones really noticing the difference. Haha!

I did get a 360Hz OLED last year, and from what I've heard, sticking with my current setup until a substantial GPU upgrade for the 4090 makes sense.

Just wait for the 9999X4D instead. That could be more worthwhile!

What if this isn’t just a joke? Seriously think about it.

What do you mean?

Answered By FutureTechSeeker On

You might be better off waiting for the 9999X3D instead. It might provide even better performance!
