Should I Keep My CPU Overclock or Turn It Off?

Hey everyone! I just tried out this overclocking software called "QuickCPU" on my laptop with an Intel Core i3-1005G1 CPU. Before the overclock, my CPU clock speed was around 1.19 GHz, and it ran at about 60-70°C (or 50-55°C with a cooling pad). After overclocking, the speed shot up to 3.37 GHz, but now I'm seeing temperatures of 87-95°C (78-82°C with the cooling pad). I use my laptop mainly to run games like Minecraft, GTA San Andreas, and a couple of others, plus I do some light LLM model work. Should I keep this overclock, or is it too risky? I'm worried about my laptop overheating!

I think you should revert the overclock. It’s running way too hot, and that could damage your battery over time.

My battery dies in about 45 minutes, even though it says 2.5 hours left.

Honestly, 1.19 GHz was likely just the base clock, and it should boost under load. You should check your task manager while gaming to see how it performs without the overclock. Are you actually noticing a performance boost? And is it getting too hot to handle?

What game should I test it with?

I’ll check it out now. Don’t worry, my laptop’s on a table with a cooling pad underneath.

If your laptop was only at 50-55°C before, that seems really low for an idle state. Most laptops sit at around 80-90°C when under heavy load. I tuned mine to run just below the 97°C throttle limit. You might want to check your temps when gaming or under load.

I have some screenshots I can share.

Make sure you share your temps pre-overclock, too!

What cooling pad are you using? I need one because my CPU hits over 102°C with boost clock, and I’m worried.

You might be going to "jeil" (jail) with those temps!

Why would I be going to "jeil"?
