Should I Learn Kustomize for Kubernetes?

For me, Helm is the way to go, especially for larger projects. I wouldn't say Kustomize is essential, and in some cases, it's just unnecessary fluff. Helm is more commonly used and can handle more intricate logic than Kustomize.

Kustomize has its place for smaller projects, especially for managing slight differences between environments. But once things get more complicated, Helm is way more efficient and powerful. I recommend picking up the basics of Kustomize while primarily using Helm for larger applications.

Kustomize is definitely user-friendly and has a lot of practical applications. It's great for learning things like overlays and patches without too much complexity. If you're dealing with Helm charts, Kustomize can help you make tweaks without having to wait for chart authors to update things.
