I'm putting together an AM5 system mainly for competitive CS2 at 1080p and 320Hz, with occasional OBS streaming, Discord, Chrome, and other games. The build uses a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, an ASUS B650M-AYW WiFi motherboard, an Alienware AW2525HM 320Hz monitor, and a Thermalright SG-750S PSU. In my region, 1x16GB DDR5-5600 costs about $210, 2x8GB costs $275, and 2x16GB costs $425. For the GPU, I'm considering an RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070, or RTX 3070 Ti. The main choices are an RTX 3070 with 16GB in dual-channel, an RTX 3070 with a single 16GB stick temporarily followed by another stick later, or an RTX 3060 Ti with 32GB in dual-channel and a future GPU upgrade. My priority is high FPS, strong 1% lows, and consistent frame times in CS2. Would you choose 32GB immediately, or accept a slower single-channel setup temporarily to get the stronger GPU?

If the RTX 3070 is affordable with 2x8GB, that is still better than 1x16GB for gaming because dual-channel bandwidth matters. However, 16GB can become restrictive once OBS, Chrome, Discord, and the game are all open. My order of preference would be 2x16GB with the 3060 Ti, then 2x8GB with the 3070, and single-channel 16GB only as a last resort.
I’d avoid running one 16GB stick if competitive performance matters. Single-channel memory can noticeably hurt average FPS and especially frame consistency. For this kind of CPU-heavy game, an RTX 3060 Ti paired with 32GB of dual-channel RAM is a sensible balance, and the GPU is easier to replace later than a mismatched memory kit. Just make sure the 32GB kit has reasonable timings; very high-latency DDR5 can reduce some of the benefit.

The 7800X3D should provide plenty of CPU headroom for CS2, but exact 1% lows depend on settings, maps, background programs, and the test method. I wouldn’t rely on exaggerated FPS claims; the important point is to keep the memory in dual-channel and use a sensible kit.
