Hey everyone! I just built my first PC in about eight years, and while it booted up fine, I'm noticing my CPU temps are hitting over 90 degrees Celsius just by opening Firefox. My CPU is a Ryzen 9600x installed on an ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming WiFi motherboard, running Windows 11. The max temps I'm seeing are 68 degrees for the cores, but the package and CCD #0 are reaching as high as 92.3 and 90.1 degrees, respectively. Does this suggest I might not have mounted the CPU cooler properly, or could there be another issue at play? Thanks for any help!

It sounds like there might be an issue with the cooler not being mounted properly. Before you dive into reinstalling it, double-check that you removed any protective film from the cooler. Those temps are unusually high for a basic workload.
How's your cooler reacting when the temps rise? Does it ramp up to full speed? If it's an air cooler, the fans should be responsive, but sometimes they take a moment to kick in, leading to spikes before settling down.
It does react, but there are some noticeable spikes in temperature before the fans adjust.
Have you ensured that there's no plastic left on the cooler’s copper plate? Sometimes people overlook that, which can definitely cause overheating. If you took everything off, it might just need a reseat to ensure full contact with the CPU.
I directly checked for any plastic and removed it, but I'm starting to think it could be a mounting issue.
Given that you ensured the plastic is off and the cooler's design, I’d recommend taking it off and checking the thermal paste coverage. You might need to reseat it to ensure it's making full contact with the IHS.
I did check and removed any film before installation, but now I'm wondering if I might've not mounted it correctly or used enough thermal paste.
