Should I Remove My GPU to Install an NVMe SSD?

I'm looking to install a Crucial P3 1TB PCIe Gen3 NVMe M.2 SSD in my old IBUYPOWER prebuilt system. I've been trying to learn everything I can before it arrives, which has been a challenge since I'm relatively new to upgrading my PC (I just went from 8GB to 24GB of RAM, and that was a struggle too!). My concern is that the M.2 socket is really tight, situated between my GPU and CPU cooler—only about 1.5 to 2 inches of space. Do I need to remove my GPU to install this SSD, or can I manage it in that tight space? Thanks in advance for any advice!

For sure, it's easier to take out the GPU when installing. Just don’t forget the tiny screw that secures the SSD. It can be tricky!

Glad to hear that! My setup came with the small screw too, which is super helpful. I was initially hesitant about removing the GPU, but I want to do this right. Thanks for the reassurance!

If you can properly secure the SSD without removing the GPU, you might not need to take it out. Also, just double-check that your M.2 slot supports NVMe drives to avoid any surprises.

I made sure of that! My research says it does support NVMe, according to my trusty ChatGPT. Appreciate the input!

Yeah, I'd recommend removing the GPU to make the installation easier. It's pretty straightforward; just unscrew it from the back of your case, release the latch, and pull it out. Also, regarding your RAM, it would be better to have matched sizes on your sticks for optimal performance; mixing an 8GB and a 16GB stick might not be the best setup.

I get that! But I actually have three 8GB sticks. I did a lot of research using ChatGPT, so fingers crossed everything's good. Haven't noticed any issues yet, but thanks for the heads up!

Totally agree! It’s important to keep things uniform for better performance. Just keep an eye on performance and troubleshoot if needed.
