I recently purchased new RAM sticks to upgrade my system from 16 GB to 32 GB. I'm unsure whether I should remove my old 8 GB sticks completely or if I can just add the new 16 GB sticks to the existing setup by putting the new ones in slots 1 and 3 while leaving the old ones in slots 2 and 4. What's the best approach here?

If your RAM sticks are of different speeds, especially if the new ones are faster, they might not work together smoothly. But with DDR4, they often do play nice. Just give it a shot; if it runs well, awesome! If not, you can always just use the new ones exclusively.
If you're only looking for 32 GB, just replace the old RAM with the new ones. It's a cleaner setup and avoids potential compatibility issues.
If you don't need 48 GB, it's probably best to just swap out the old sticks. You can keep the old ones as backups or maybe sell them later.
