I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed after being offered a sys admin position, especially since my background is mostly in IT help desk Tier 2 roles. The job description mentions leveraging AI tools. Although I'm familiar with the tools listed, I don't have much hands-on experience with specific ones like CLAUDE or OpenAI. Given that I was just laid off, this opportunity could mean a significant salary bump of around $20k from my previous role. I have experience with creating SOPs, training and onboarding, and managing things like Intune, Entra, Active Directory, mobile device management, and asset tracking. I've also used InforHMS and two ticketing systems—SYSAID and FRESHSERVICE. I'm really tempted to take the plunge, but I'm scared of failing at the role and not knowing what I'm doing. What should I do? Any advice for learning and preparing if I decide to attempt this role?

It's great that you're considering this opportunity! The fact they mentioned AI tools suggests they might be looking for someone who can learn and adapt rather than someone with tons of experience. Worst-case scenario, you learn something new and get some great experience out of it. So why not take the leap?
Honestly, just go for it! You'd be surprised at how many people in this field started without the exact experience. You'll figure things out as you go. And don't let imposter syndrome get to you; it's super common! Just show up and do your best—everyone has to start somewhere.
You should definitely go for it. Just be upfront about your experience and show that you're eager to learn. If it doesn't work out, you can always go back to help desk jobs, and you've gained a valuable experience in the process. Plus, there are always resources online to help you catch up on what you need to know.

Exactly! Plus, with your skills in AD and MDM, you already have a strong foundation for the sys admin role. Just focus on learning as much as you can while you’re there.
