Should I Turn Off My Laptop with Bad S.M.A.R.T Status to Prevent Data Loss?

I'm really worried about my ASUS ROG Zephyrus (G14) because it has a bad S.M.A.R.T status. I have no idea how to back up my data onto a USB drive, and I'm taking it to a service center tomorrow. My big concern is whether it's okay to keep my laptop turned off until then, or if that could lead to more data loss. I'm not tech-savvy, so any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated!

If your laptop still boots up, you've got a decent chance of salvaging your data if you keep it off. Accessing it can sometimes corrupt the data further, so turning it off is better. In my experience, as long as it boots, most of your files should be okay. If it doesn't boot, try connecting the drive to another computer or using a live boot option. I once had a hard drive fail, but I was able to recover about 99% of my files by connecting it through a USB adapter, even though some were corrupted.

It's best to leave the laptop off, especially since you have a bad S.M.A.R.T status. You want to avoid any attempts to access the data that could make things worse. If it still boots to the BIOS, that's a good sign! Just make sure to handle everything carefully until you can get professional help.
