I'm putting together a gaming PC for my kid featuring an i7-8700K and a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. Right now, it has 16GB of RAM (DDR4 2666MHz). I'm considering upgrading to 32GB, especially since it's just $50 at my local Micro Center. Do you think this upgrade is worth it for gaming performance?

The CPU is relatively weak compared to the 3080 Ti, which is definitely something to consider. It sounds like upgrading RAM could help, but it really boils down to the types of games being played.
You might want to test it out with the current 16GB first. If games are using nearly all of that, then an upgrade could help. However, keep in mind that the CPU might bottleneck the GPU’s performance at 1080p anyway, so RAM might not be the main issue here.
I’d say go ahead and buy new RAM regardless. 2666MHz is pretty slow. You could upgrade to 16GB at 3600MHz for better performance, or if you want to future-proof it, go for 32GB at the same speed.
Upgrading to 32GB might provide a boost, but honestly, your CPU is likely to hold back the GPU in many games. I’d recommend saving that $50 for a future upgrade to the CPU and motherboard instead.
