I'm experiencing issues with my 6800XT that makes it feel like it's giving out. Here are the problems I've noticed: random power surges, coil whine mostly during startup and after gaming, screen artifacts, and frequency drops. I've tried re-seating the GPU, resetting the BIOS, switching operating systems, and even swapping with another PC. My current setup features a 7600X CPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 750W PSU, and I play games at 1440p. I'm not planning on upgrading my resolution anytime soon. With a budget of around 600 Euros (after trying to sell the 6800XT), I'm looking at two options: the 9070XT (which might stretch my budget) or the 5070. I often compare game visuals between my PC and another with a 2070S, and I feel that my graphics quality isn't where it should be, especially concerning anti-aliasing and texture edges in single-player games. Given my requirements and budget, would it be unreasonable to prefer the Nvidia card for its feature set over a newer AMD card, despite potentially leaving performance on the table? I'm more of a casual gamer and really enjoy features like FSR and Raytracing where available.

I ended up getting the 5070 because my case has limited space, but if I had the option, I'd choose the 9070XT for the extra 16GB of VRAM and better performance. I'm running a similar setup to yours, and the performance boost with the 9070XT is pretty significant.
What’s your exact budget? If the 5070 is within your price range, it might be worth considering, but if a 9070XT is only slightly more expensive, then it’s the better card for similar pricing.
I have about 400 Euros and hope to get around 200 Euros for my 6800XT. The 9070XT is going for 680 Euros, while the cheapest 5070 is around 580 Euros.
I think you should definitely go for the 9070XT instead of the 5070. The 9070XT performs better and is very similar to the 5070 Ti. Plus, FSR4 has improved a lot and supports ray tracing too!
I agree! Some 9070XT models also work fine with a 750W PSU, so you won't need to upgrade that part. The Sapphire Pulse 9070XT is a great choice and benchmarks show it outperforms the 5070 in ray tracing at 1440p.
I had similar issues with my RX 6800 before I switched to the 5070, which ended up being a solid choice for 1440p gaming. The DLSS improvements and better overall support for features like ray tracing made a noticeable difference for me. I found the upgrade well worth it!
I feel the same! Given that Nvidia has a more polished experience with DLSS and ray tracing, I think choosing Nvidia over AMD makes the most sense these days.

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been using a 6800XT for a while but rarely hit over 10GB of usage, even with maxed settings. I get the future-proofing argument for VRAM, but I'm worried that AMD might not support their newer cards well, like they did with the 6000 series.
