Should I Upgrade from a Ryzen 5600X to a 9700X for My New GPU?

Hey everyone! I just upgraded to an Nvidia 5080 FE, and it's got me thinking about my current setup. Right now, I've got an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X with a stock cooler, an NVIDIA 3080 FE, 16GB of Corsair RAM, and an MSI B550-A PRO motherboard. I'm wondering if I should upgrade to a Ryzen 9700X or even AM5, or if I can just stick with my current setup without bottlenecking my new GPU. I'm particularly interested in whether the 9700X makes sense performance-wise, especially since it seems to balance power use and price well. Also, would I need to completely rebuild my PC since I would need a new motherboard and RAM? What are your thoughts on this?

Definitely, you're going to notice a bottleneck with your current setup when using the 5080. Upgrading to the 9700X would give you better performance. If you can manage the budget for the upgrade, go for it!

Sounds like a plan! I'm looking at what I can sell my old parts for to help fund this upgrade.

If you’re mainly gaming at 1440p or 4K, consider sticking with the 5600X, as it won't hold you back by much. But for high-FPS 1080p gaming, the 9700X is a good call. Just keep in mind, it's a significant investment for just a 10% performance gain over your current CPU.

I mostly game on a Samsung G9, so I see your point. I’m leaning more towards getting the 9700X since I play some games at lower resolutions but still want that performance boost.

The 9700X paired with a nice B650 board and 6000MT/s RAM will give you a big performance boost compared to your existing setup. You won’t regret the upgrade; it’s worth it for gaming, especially if you’re into higher FPS.
