I'm in the process of upgrading my PC, and the last major component I need to replace is my CPU. Currently, I'm using the 8500G, which has been fine for gaming so far. I'm wondering if upgrading to the 9800X3D would make a significant difference for my gaming experience, or if that would be overkill given my current setup.

The 8500G isn’t exactly a powerhouse; it’s based on a mobile CPU design with a pretty limited L3 cache, only 16MB compared to 96MB in the X3D. While this might not hit every game hard, some like Rust and Tarkov could struggle due to that cache limitation. If your games start lagging, it might be that L3 cache holding you back. If it’s working for you now, you could wait a bit longer, but the 9800X3D would definitely be a worthwhile upgrade!
If you’re not playing at 16x9 resolution, you might find yourself limited by your GPU instead. Upgrading to the 9800X3D should give you a noteworthy performance boost, especially at lower resolutions. It sounds like a solid move!
Excellent, exactly what I wanted to hear, thank you!

Thank you for the information. I bought this as a prebuilt PC and plan to upgrade slowly. The CPU and power supply are the last two pieces on my list. I wasn't sure if going for the 9800X3D was overkill.
