I'm considering an upgrade for my PC, currently running an i7-9700k. I've been experiencing a lot of packet bursts and stuttering while playing Black Ops 6, and it looks like my CPU is bottlenecking my 7800XT — 75% CPU usage compared to 25% for the GPU in benchmarks.
I have an MSI B850-P motherboard on the way, and I'm weighing my options between the 9700x for $380 CAD or the 9800x3d for $655 CAD. I heard that the 9700x can match the performance of the 7800x3d when paired with 6400 CL32 RAM, overclocked, and some tweaks (thanks to Blackbird's review!). I'm especially curious if anyone using the 9700x can share their experience with reaching 2133mhz Infinity Fabric speeds under 1.25v SOC. What do you think: which one should I go for at these prices?

That’s a significant price difference! I have the 9950x3d, but it’s mainly for work. If the 9700x can indeed give you close to the performance of a 7800x3d, then it's a smart way to save some cash. Hopefully, someone can provide insight on that.
I'd recommend going for the 9800x3d. It might be pricier, but you'll avoid buyer's remorse later on when the 9700x doesn't perform as you hoped.
The 9800x3d will definitely outperform the 9700x in CPU-heavy games, especially if you're playing on lower settings. If you're really focused on performance, it’s the better choice overall.
I get your point, but don't forget to check out the video. Not all non-X3D options are bad! With such a price gap, I'd consider getting the 9700x instead.
Just go for the 9800x3d. In CPU-heavy games like Black Ops 6, it’ll clearly give you much better performance than the 9700x, especially at lower settings.
The 7800x3d is priced at $510 CAD here. I'm leaning toward saving money and am really curious about how far people can push the 9700x.
