Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on whether I should upgrade my current CPU. I've been using my PC setup from 2017, which includes an Intel 8700k (not overclocked, just using XMP profile) alongside an ASUS Strix Z370-F Gaming motherboard. I've got a good cooling system (Corsair H115i), 32GB of G.Skill RAM at 3600MHz, a powerful MSI Trio 2070 Super GPU, a 1440p IPS display with Gsync, and storage covered with a 1TB M.2 SSD and a 2TB HDD. I'm mainly playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 while juggling some browsers and Photoshop for basic photo editing.
I'm considering switching to a Ryzen 7 5700G mainly because I value having an integrated GPU as a backup in case my external GPU fails (better safe than sorry!). I'd also like to keep my existing DDR4 RAM, since DDR5 is still a bit expensive. Do you think the performance upgrade with the 5700G is worth it given my setup? Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If having an integrated GPU is really important for you, the 5700G might not be the best choice. It's a toned-down version of the 5700X and features less L3 cache, which can hurt gaming performance. I know you're not keen on jumping to AM5 or DDR5 systems yet, but for just a bit more, you could snag an AM5 CPU like the 7600X. It has an iGPU and double the L3 cache, plus a much better upgrade path in the future. Just something to consider!
I had no idea those AM5 CPUs had iGPUs! So, you really think it's better to save up and go for an AM5 setup instead of the 5700G?
