Should I Upgrade from My 4080 Super to a 5090?

I bought my 4080 Super setup last year for £1800, but I'm concerned that the 16GB of VRAM might not be enough for future games at high/ultra settings on 1440p. I'm considering if upgrading to a 5090 rig for £3800 is a smart investment, especially since I could sell my current rig for around £1000. What do you think?

If you're gaming at 1440p, I'd say hold off on the upgrade. It’s probably not necessary unless you're thinking about moving to 4K. Your 4080 Super is still a powerful card for that resolution, and you're likely to find better value elsewhere.

For sure! Unless you're feeling like going all out for a 4K setup, it seems like a bit of a waste.

Honestly, at 1440p the performance difference is only about 35% better with the 5090 compared to the 4080 Super. Most games aren't even going to use all that 16GB of VRAM you're worried about. So, it's really about whether you think spending £2000 is worth that small performance boost for you.

That's spot on! It’s a tough call on whether that upgrade makes sense.

The price-performance ratio of the 5090 just doesn’t seem worth it unless you're also using it for work. I'd recommend being patient and waiting for the next series to come out before you make a big decision.

Exactly! Your current card will likely last you until then.

I switched from a 4090 to a 5090, and honestly, there's not much change at 1440p—they both perform great. If you're not considering a solid 4K monitor, then I'd suggest looking into getting one instead of dropping a bunch of cash on that upgrade.

I was tempted to buy a 5090 too, but honestly, if you're not gaming at 4K, I don't see the urgency in upgrading from the 4080 Super. Just keep enjoying your setup until something really worthwhile comes along.
