Should I upgrade from my old laptop to a new PC or stick with it for now?

I've been using my 5-year-old HP Omen 15, and while it still works, I've noticed it's starting to slow down a bit. I've even had to replace the fans, but that didn't help much. I doubt it will last another 2-3 years, and I'm considering whether to buy/build a new PC or keep using my laptop. My budget is pretty tight right now, around $1000 to $1200. As a programmer, I rely on my laptop for work, so I'm wondering if investing in a new PC is justified. This would also be my first time building a PC, so I'm feeling a bit unsure about what to do.

You mentioned it's slowing down, but how much? If it's just a minor inconvenience and not affecting your work too much, it might be worth sticking with your laptop for now. Laptops offer more portability, which is great for work. A desktop could be more powerful, but you'll lose that flexibility.

It's taking about 15 minutes just to open and build my projects, which is becoming a hassle. I bought the laptop for college, and now that I mostly work from home, I'm not too keen on losing the ability to take it with me occasionally.

You can definitely get a solid programming PC for about $1k. Just make sure to prioritize a good CPU and enough RAM, and you should be fine!
