Should I upgrade from my RTX 3080 to a 5070 Ti or 5080?

I'm considering upgrading my RTX 3080 since I'm running into serious VRAM issues. While the 3080 is decent for 4K gaming when VRAM usage is low, I've recently been experiencing lag while playing games that need up to 13GB of VRAM. I'm torn between getting a 5070 Ti, which has 16GB of VRAM and is more affordable, versus going for the higher-end 5080. My concern is that I'll need to upgrade again in a couple of years if 16GB becomes insufficient. What do you all think?

Honestly, the 5070 Ti seems like the best choice here. With the high-end cards just hitting 16GB, that's the only real option unless you want to spend a fortune on a 32GB 5090, which is crazy expensive!

Right? The 5090 is way out of my budget too! I'm leaning towards the 5070 Ti as well, especially since it should still outperform my 3080 even with consideration for VRAM.

Which games are pushing your VRAM to 13GB?

I'm mainly playing open-world games like Cyberpunk in certain areas and modded Skyrim. Linear games don't seem to have this issue.

If you're serious about 4K gaming, you really need a powerful GPU. Don't skimp on it if you can help it!

If you can hold out for the 5080 Super or whatever they call it, rumors suggest it might come with 24GB. That could fill the gap nicely between the 16GB and 32GB models when they release!

Getting a 5070 Ti at MSRP is a great deal. Be wary of prices over $800, that's just too steep. And definitely sell your RTX 3080 soon—it's still going for around $400 on eBay, which is what I paid locally a few years back!

MSRP for the 5070 Ti was around $750 before tariffs, so that $800-$850 price isn't ideal but it's somewhat expected. Just don’t go higher than that!

I'm seeing them priced at Microcenter for at least $950 for a decent model. I'm toying with the idea of building a new PC with some older parts I have.
