Should I Upgrade My 3700X to a 9850X3D for 1440p Gaming?

I'm considering upgrading my Ryzen 3700X to a 9850X3D, but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost of over $700. I ran some benchmarks before making the jump and they indicate I might only see an increase of about 20 FPS, primarily in terms of improved minimum frame rates. Right now, I mostly play Battlefield 6 on high settings without DLSS. I'm looking for advice on whether this upgrade is justified or if I should stick with my current setup, especially given my previous experience with unbalanced systems when upgrading. Any thoughts?

Check where your GPU usage is at right now. If it's not hitting around 100% during gameplay, that could indicate a bottleneck with your CPU. Even more so, my 3700X choked my previous RTX 3080 at 1440p. An upgrade like the 9850X3D would definitely help alleviate those frame drops.

Exactly! When I upgraded, I saw a noticeable increase in FPS, especially in demanding titles.

Thanks! That's what I needed to hear; looks like it's time for that upgrade.

Honestly, while the 9850X3D is powerful, you might not need to go all out. Something like the 7800X3D could still provide a significant improvement at a lower price point. Just ensure you're also ready to deal with the DDR5 RAM upgrade, which adds to the overall cost.

That’s true, the other X3D CPUs could be a good middle ground if you're looking to save a bit of cash.

Great advice! I'll keep that in mind as I weigh my options.

You might be feeling bottlenecked with the 3700X, especially if you're gaming at 1080p or 1440p with high refresh rates. A balanced system is key, and the 9850X3D would definitely help achieve that, but consider whether a less costly upgrade like the 7600X3D could give you similar performance boosts without breaking the bank.

Definitely! I've always ended up with unbalanced builds myself too. It might be wise to look for a middle ground if the 9850X3D feels like too much.

Yeah, that's a fair point. Trying to make sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck!

If you've already bought the 9850X3D, keep it! It's a major upgrade in performance you'll appreciate for years. Not to mention, it shouldn't require another upgrade for quite some time, especially when compared to your current 3700X, which can bottleneck your 5070 Ti at 1440p.

Totally agree! I've seen friends upgrade from older CPUs and the longevity factor of the 9800X3D is really impressive. You won't regret it.

Exactly! Just trying to get a sense of the value versus the initial investment.
