I'm planning to upgrade my GTX 1080 (8GB) to either a 5070 (12GB) or a 9060 XT (16GB). The issue is my current 600W EVGA PSU falls 50W short of the recommended wattage for the 5070. I've been using this power supply for almost 9 years now, and I'm curious about two things: First, how can I tell if my PSU is on its way out? And second, is it safe to use the 5070 with my existing power supply given that my CPU (a Ryzen 5 7600) consumes very little power under full load?

Given that your PSU is already 9 years old and has a low tier rating, I would not trust it with a new GPU. The fact that it's been running beyond its warranty period is a warning sign. Look for something that's highly rated like a Tier A or B PSU; it will be worth the investment to avoid any potential disasters.
You definitely should consider upgrading that PSU. The EVGA W1 model is rated quite low, and it’s impressive it has lasted this long. It’s best to play it safe since an old PSU can cause damage to your new components. I'd suggest moving up to an 850W if you can swing it, as it will give you more headroom for future upgrades.

What about the Corsair RM650e? Is that a safe choice for an upgrade?
