Should I Upgrade My CPU and GPU or Build a New PC?

Hey everyone! I'm considering an upgrade for my current prebuilt system, which has a Ryzen 3600 CPU and a 3060 GPU, along with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 550W PSU. I'm thinking about swapping out the CPU for a 5700X3D and the GPU for either a 5070 or 9070, depending on which is cheaper. This upgrade would cost me about €700, and I could sell my old CPU and GPU for around €200. Do you think the PSU can handle this advanced setup? Or should I just bite the bullet and build a whole new system instead?

I'd say go for the upgrade! Just make sure you get a good quality PSU when you swap the CPU and GPU. It could really enhance your gaming experience.

Just a heads-up: the 3600 uses 65W while the 5700X3D goes up to 105W, and your 3060 is about 170W. Your 550W PSU might struggle running everything at full power. If you're replacing both the CPU and GPU, it could be cleaner to just build a whole new rig.

How about a phased upgrade? Start with the 5700X3D and maybe upgrade the PSU later? The 3060 is still a solid card that can handle gaming until 2025.

Honestly, I would lean towards building a new system on an AM5 platform. You’d need a new PSU anyway, plus I’d recommend jumping to 32GB of RAM. You could keep the 3060 until you can afford the new GPU.

First off, double-check if your motherboard supports the 5700X3D. If you have a reputable brand like MSI or ASUS, you should be fine. Just be cautious if you’re using a Dell motherboard; you might hit some compatibility issues.

I don’t think you need to completely build a new system just yet. The 5700X3D doesn’t draw too much power, and if you have a decent PSU, 550W should be adequate. Just confirm you’re using a high-quality unit!
