Should I Upgrade My CPU for the New RTX 5070?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice about upgrading my CPU. I've just gotten a new RTX 5070, but I feel like it's being held back by my old Ryzen 7 3700X when I game at WQHD (1440p). I've got a few upgrade options in mind:
1. Get a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, although it's tough to find and usually costs over €300.
2. Buy a new Ryzen 7 5700X3D since it's almost as powerful and priced around €300.
3. Switch to an entirely new AM5 platform, which would set me back over €600.
What would you all suggest? Is upgrading my AM4 setup worthwhile, or should I save up for the AM5 upgrade?

Sticking with AM4 is an option too. Just upgrading to the 5700X3D should be cheaper and you can use it for a while until the AM5 becomes more affordable. It might hold you over until you're ready to make a bigger investment.

You might also think about upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X. This could give you a nice boost of about 20-30% compared to your current 3700X without breaking the bank. It's a solid option while you wait for the next gen of CPUs!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely look into the 5600 options before making a big switch.

If you have access to a used 5800X3D or 5700X3D on eBay, that could be a good middle-ground upgrade. The performance boost with the 5070 is fantastic!

Honestly, if you're considering switching to a new platform, the AM5 might be the way to go. Keep an eye on sales for parts, and upgrade as budget allows. With the RTX 5070, even a 9600x is a decent choice for 1080p. Just remember, if you're a budget gamer, the latest PCIe 5.0 tech might not be necessary for you right now. So yeah, go with AM5!

I think it's time to let go of AM4. It's starting to show its age in newer titles. Prices for AM4 X3D chips are climbing since they’re discontinued. I'd save up for an AM5 setup; you'll likely benefit more long-term. Consider selling your old system once you make the jump!
